Kenston Board of Education –July 17, 2023
Meeting Details: Kenston Board of Education met in regular session on July 17th, 2023 at Kenston High School, 9500 Bainbridge Rd, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023, in the High School Auburn Bainbridge room beginning at 7:00 pm. Public Comment Policy: available at two points of each meeting as detailed in 165.1 Regular Meetings and 165.2 Special Meetings. Note that comment cards MUST be submitted prior to the start of the meeting.
Board Attendance: President Jennifer Troutman, Vice President Neysa Gaskins, Dennis Bergansky, Beth Krause, and Tom Manning.
Staff Attendance: Superintendent Steven Sayers and new Treasurer Seth Cales. Assistant treasurer, Matt Hosler was also present in the rear of the room.
The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Troutman at 7:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
President Troutman spoke to introduce and welcome Seth Cales as the new treasurer.
Minutes: The Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve that the reading of these minutes be waived and to approve the revised minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 15, 2023, the minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 20, 2023 and the Special Meeting of July 6, 2023 as recorded or corrected. Approved.

Mrs. Troutman noted that at the prior meeting on June 20th, 2023, the camera was turned off during the time when she advised that Mr. McDevitt would be unable to be present for his presentation as listed on that agenda.
Board Reports and Informational Items
A Birthday Book titled, The Most Perfect Thing in the Universe by Cleveland author Tricia Sprinstubb was presented to Neysa Gaskins.
At this time, there were no other board reports or informational items to be presented.

Financial Items
Motion approved for the following financial items:

Power tools for the KMS Science Olympiad team in the estimated value of $600 from Mr. Ron Kupiec.

$50 for the KMS 7th Grade Camp from Mr. and Mrs. Jim Henry.

$500 for the KHS Science Olympiad team from Mr. David Kupiec.

The Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve a contract with Julian & Grube, Inc for preparation of the districts GAAP financial statements and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, June 30, 2024 and June 30, 2025 at a total cost of $33,300.00 or $11,100.00 per year.
Certified, Classified, and Supplemental Personnel Contracts approved.
Exempt Personnel

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve the following resolution here, adopting the Administrative and Exempt Administrative Support Staff Personnel Handbook for the 2023-2024 Contract Year. The handbook is here . Approved.

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve step placement on the compensation schedule for administrative and exempt staff for the 2023-2024 contract year, and authorize the Board President, Treasurer and Superintendent to amend employment contracts to include step placement and benefits as per the Admin/Exempt Admin Support Personnel Handbook. Step placements for admin staff can be found here. Approved.

New Business

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve the 5-year contracted agreement with CCBCC Operations, LLC, for beverage services, effective August 1, 2023 until August 1, 2028.

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve the membership in the Alliance for High Quality Education with an annual membership fee of $4,000 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve the contracted services with Precious Cargo for transportation services at a cost not to exceed $150,000 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Kenston Board of Education is being asked to approve the following volunteers: 2023-2024 School Year: Dave Weitman approved as KMS Asst. 8th Grade Football.

Mr. Sayers wanted to thank all those who provided Safety Town, a great program, last week and this week, especially the Bainbridge Police and Fire Departments..

2023-2024 printed district calendars will be available soon and mailed in August. The Digital district calendar is updated and is already available online.

Some positions still need to be filled and other additional work and projects need to be completed before the beginning of the school year on August 15th, which is approaching quickly.
Noted conversations during wrap up:
Mrs. Troutman reminded the Board that the Board retreat begins the first week in August on August 2nd.
Dr. Krause wanted to highlight Mrs. Abra Schweikert who resigned this year and thank her for her years and work at Kenston. Mrs. Schweickert was the Kenston Middle School Special Education Teacher
Seth Cales announced that the new assistant treasurer, Matt Hosler, who was present at the meeting was congratulated on his recent wedding.
No Executive Session
The meeting was adjourned by Mrs. Troutman at 7:20pm.
