Berkshire Board of Education

Meeting Details: The meeting was held at the Berkshire Board of Education Auditorium, 14155 Claridon Troy, Burton, OH 44021 at 6 pm.  In-person, with a recording of the meeting available online.  


Board Members Attending: present were John Manfredi, President, Jody Miller, VP,  Mary Hipp, Linda Stone and Bryan Wadsworth


Staff Attendance: present were John Stoddard, Superintendent and  Beth McCaffrey, Treasurer


Agenda was approved.


Minutes for October 10th were approved. Agendas and approved minutes are available online.


Construction Update - Mr. Chris Heasley

  • Lockers added and hopefully more will be added in December

  • Storage units should be shipped December 22

  • All final state inspections have been completed and are approved 

  • Stadium remains - there was no retaining wall in the engineering design, so there isn’t enough space. As a result, the grade will have to be raised to allow for drainage. 

  • Working to repair the light pole 

  • The gutters have received a settlement and are ordered and expected in two weeks

Approved the lease of three buses from the bank at a rate of 5.46% for five years Should be able to take    delivery in a week 


Superintendent’s Report

  • Personnel – resolution approved

  • Certification Substitute Rate of Pay - Board President Manfredi’s suggestion to increase the pay rate for substitutes to $102 was approved

  • Calamity Days  - Adopting the district plan for excessive calamity, which coincides with the language in the teachers union contract, according to the Superintendent, was approved

  • Overnight Trip for the wrestling team, which Superintendent said will benefit the team, was approved

  • NEOLA policies approved

  • Approval in lieu of transportation to the Keeney family (no details provided)

Old business - none


New business 

  • Board President Manfredi complimented the production of Dracula in the new auditorium. He had several positive comments about the play. “It was worth seeing what they produce.” He said the sound system is much improved as actors could be difficult to hear in past productions. 

  • A student named Issac thanked Manfredi for the Kooling company and said he is very grateful for the program
