West Geauga Board of Education

Meeting Details: The West Geauga Board of Education met at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Office Community Room, 8615 Cedar Road in Chester Township.  Meetings are open to the public and media.  Agenda and minutes are available online.  A recording of the meeting is available via YouTube. 

Board Attendance:

  • Kathy Leavenworth, President

  • Ben Kotowski, Vice President

  • Mary-Michelle Coleman Walsh

  • Christina Sherwood

  • William Beers 

Staff Attendance:

  • Richard A. Markwardt, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools

  • Nancy Benincasa, Assistant Superintendent

  • Karen Pavlat, Treasurer/CFO

  • Derek Buell, Baseball Coach

  • Brandon Stewart, Athletic Director  

Minutes from previous board meeting were approved.


State Report Card Presentation -  Dr. Benincasa reported:

  • 5 star rating was achieved and a very high percentage of students are exceling.  

  • Performance index scores were in the highest performance levels in all areas.  This shows students are achieving at levels far surpassing basic proficiency.  Same 

  • High scores were achieved in early literacy.  

  • Graduation rate was the only area that was not 5 star.  This 4 star rating missed the highest level by 3 students.  

All were congratulated for meeting top 10 school status (See minutes, page 1)

 

Baseball Training Trip Presentation - Coach Buell and AD Stewart reported:

  • Baseball team will be traveling to Myrtle Beach – 3/26 - 4/1

  • Team members will do all the fundraising to pay for charter bus, hotel  

  • All 3 teams and coaches (freshmen, JV and varsity) are participating. 

Next Board Meetings: Oct 10, 2022; Nov 14 meeting changed to Nov 21
