Kenston Board of Education


August 22, 2022, 7pm, KHS Auditorium

The meeting was held in the auditorium to allow for additional new personnel to attend and be introduced at the start of the meeting.

Minutes approved for: July 18th, August 3rd, August 8th, 2022

The meeting began at 7pm on August 22, 2022 with roll call and the introduction of the Interim Superintendent, Stephen Sayers. Following this, meeting minutes were approved and new personnel in attendance, both certified and classified, were introduced. The introductions of new personnel was not on the Agenda.

Dr. Kathleen Poe and Luke Busby spoke about curriculum and the Athletic Boosters respectively, but there were no further board or committee reports. 

The Kenston Board then approved various financial reports as well as certified, classified, and supplemental personnel contracts in the order listed on the agenda. 

Business Operations;

  • two transportation contracts were approved, 

  • The board approved a resolution as to the "Impracticality of Transportation and Transportation Reimbursements" with regard to Valley Christian Academy. 

Teaching and Learning;

  • Board approved an affiliation agreement with Auburn Career Center for field-based observation experience, and a contract with the College Board for a College Readiness and Success program, both for the 2022-2023 school year. 

New Business

  • three board policies with changes or new drafts were submitted for approval with no discussion. 

  • The Policy titled; “Public Participation at Board Meetings” acquired several changes. One of note removed public participation for those in remote attendance, limiting participation to those at the meeting site only. 

  • Two other policies, with changes noted, are available for viewing on the online agenda. 

  • Also under new business, the board approved a memorandum of understanding with Ravenwood Health for the services of two Therapeutic Behavioral health Support workers for this school year. 

  • They also approved professional development meeting dates for the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) as well as professional trips for Board Members during the 22-23 school year. 

There was no public comment for agenda or non-agenda items during this meeting. 

Superintendent Sayers mentioned four items including a comment on how well the first week of school went, and he highlighted for the board's attention the daily, monthly, and annual schedule for required EPA testing of the water for chlorine, bacterial samples, copper and lead etc., at each of the schools.

Following the Superintendent’s report, the board went into executive session regarding a personnel matter, and then returned to adjourn the meeting.  No action was taken after the Executive Session.
